Commentary: Latinas Are Either Saints or Whores, According to New Movie

I’m one of those girls who’s a sucker for romantic comedies. Yes, I said it. I simply love any movie that takes a couple who just can’t seem to get their act together and ends with them finding their happily ever after.

I don’t care if the plot is kind of silly. I don’t care if the acting is awful. I don’t even necessarily care that the dialogue is dry and the chemistry isn’t ideal. I just want to see that love-conquers-all finale that always brightens my day and puts a smile on my single-girl-in-the-city face.

That is exactly what I was looking for last weekend when, on a whim, I took myself on a solo hot movie date to see The Big Wedding. I had heard that the reviews were awful but the hopeless romantic in me went anyway, as I had done countless times before. With an all-star cast—Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton—I thought, it couldn’t possibly be as bad as everyone said it was. Right?

Wrong.
