Fox Searchlight has given the green light to a new comedy about two very different families coming together to plan a wedding in just a few short weeks.
The movie is set to star Forrest Whitaker and Carlos Mencia as the fathers of the groom and bride respectively. America Ferrera will play Mencia's daughter in the as-yet-unnamed family film. It's being described as a film about the clash-of-cultures between two clans who's fathers must learn to set aside their differences for the sake of their children.
Whitaker, who won an Oscar in 2007 for his starring role in The Last King of Scotland, will next be seen in Where the Wild Things Are and The Repossession Mambo. America Ferrera has found great success with her hit TV show Ugly Betty and the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants franchise, but this film will mark Carlos Mencia's first big screen starring role after landing a bit part in Ben Stiller's The Heartbreak Kid.
