Meet Skelita Calaveras: 'Monster High's' New Latina Ghoul!

Monster High, the popular set of fashion dolls based on horror stories and science fiction, is introducing a new (international) student to its cast of ghoul students: Skelita Calaveras. Skelita is the daughter of Los Eskeletos whose heritage is rooted in the holiday Dia de los Muertos.

The doll was created by Mexican-American Mattel designer Natalie Villegas, who brought the idea to the Monster High design team. "I think I was meant to design this doll... she was made from love."

The doll includes traditional elements, including "papel picado", which are colorful paper streamer decorations that are often used in Mexican celebrations, a bodice featuring a design that is reminiscent of florals, referencing marigolds that are placed on altars during celebrations, and finally the wedges have Mexican "huaraches."

Will you be purchasing the doll for your little one? Share in the comments!
