Paco Delgado, Costume Designer for Oscar Frontrunner 'Les Misérables' Is Spanish!

Universal Pictures

The highly anticipated film Les Misérables, starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway is already getting plenty of Oscar buzz. While the movie directed by Tom Hooper may not star a Latino actor on-screen, Spanish designer Paco Delgado is responsible for the intricate costumes featured in the early 1800s period piece.

When it comes to his creative muse, Delgado dreams in color. "I love to think in terms of color for characters and in moments of the movie. Color really connects with emotions that shape the psyche of the audience," he told the LA Times.

His style also flowed with the director's vision on set. "In 'Les Misérables,' one thing [director Tom Hooper] wanted to have was color. Fantine always had to have reds and pinks in her outfit," he said.

Delgado previously worked on The Skin I Live In, which was nominated for a 2012 Golden Globe for "Best Foreign Language Film." He also designed for Biutiful and Bad Education.
