Latina.com Exclusive: Daddy Yankee Explains Why He Supports John McCain
Amigo de Obama? Not Daddy Yankee. The reggaetonero has confirmed that come election day, his vote will be for Republican candidate John McCain. Latina.com spoke exclusively to Daddy Yankee to understand why he decided to vote Republican this November while most celebrities seem downright fanatic about Democratic nominee Barack Obama.
The Puerto Rican native says the Senator made an impression on him the first time they met, at an event nearly two years ago: "I thought he was a really cool person, and this was way before he was even a presidential candidate, and I liked him a lot."
The unlikely partners reconnected last month when they were both in New York. "He invited me [to Washington] and I went," says Yankee. "We talked about boxing, we're both boxing fanatics."
It was McCain's down-to-earth nature that appealed to him the most. He explains, "the cool thing about McCain is that the same guy that was senator is the same guy who is running for president now. When I talked to him, I never felt beneath him, he looks directly at me when he’s speaking to me, and we have the same level of respect for each other."
But it was the stories McCain told him of his time on the battlefield that really struck a chord with the musician. "He said, 'Yankee, I was a soldier. And I saw people die next to me, Latinos who never got their citizenship but who were willing to die for this country. I saw a Hernandez, I saw a Rodriguez, how they killed them.' And that broke my heart hearing that. And I went, man, this guy lived it. He’s not just going, 'hey I want your vote.' He lived it."
Does it bother him that McCain doesn't speak a word of Spanish? "No, no. He has this great desire to help our people. People don't know this but since he was a senator, he has fought hard for the well-being of Latinos. I know we are dealing with someone who cares about the Latino community."
"I was surprised I have to say at how willing to listen he is," Yankee explains. "People who haven’t met him might get the wrong perception of him but he's totally different."
When we asked if he had plans to meet with Democratic candidate Barack Obama, Yankee responded with a curt, "No."
If Daddy Yankees influence within the Latino community is any indication, looks like John McCain's bid for the White House just got a major bump.
Tell us, does Daddy Yankee's endorsement of McCain affect your decision?

Pobre jovene Daddy you were PUNKED by McCain! It appears you did not do any "homework" before wasting your vote on McCain. Here are some facts for you: McCain & some other members of Congress were connected to a huge scandal that collapsed the Savings & Loan business in the 1980's & 1990's. You think b/c he saw Mexican men die in Viet Nam that makes him a hero? Why didn't he stop these men from getting killed himself? He is a coward that is the reason. Additionally, he is an adulterer b/c while still married to his first wife he was cheating on her w/his current much younger wife current wife “la flaca” Cindy. What specific concrete evidence did McCain give you to support his “stories” about helping the Latino community? Dude, you embarrassed yourself royally when you endorsed McCain for President & what about that pendeja Palin? Dude, you could have helped that mental case “one heartbeat away” from the presidency…did you ever think about that? Palin is a poor miserable excuse of a human being (& I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt by saying she is even a human being.) Please don’t base your decisions b/c “someone” including McCain was “nice” to you on those experiences. What matters is what these people who are running for office have done for “everyone” not just their state b/c their past is indicative of what they will do in the future. Cheaters are cheaters & they will never change just like a leopard can never change his spots. Just try to do more investigating on people/situations so you won’t get PUNKED again especially by someone like McCain! Hey, Bro & there is nothing wrong w/asking others for help if you don’t understand. Hope you recognize, learn & do better the next time around; we are all human & experience is what makes us smarter if we learn from it but it will also make us dumber if we don’t use the experience to learn from our errors.

Daddy Yankee just got punked!!!! Mijo you and John McCain have nothing in common. You were a tool to be used by the man to try to get the young latino vote. It seems that nuestra raza was smarter than he thought. He told Daddy what he wanted to hear. Do you really think that McCain would have given him the time of day if he were Juan who works at the corner bodega? Ah I think not, he chose him
because of who he is. That is to say, McCain needed someone he thought could influence the latino masses. Like the piped piper playing his music and we'll blindly follow. Voting for Barack at a staggering 86% was none other than the LATINOS I guess we spoke loud and clear. The republican party does not have the best interest of nuestra communidad at heart. Shame on you Daddy for supporting those who don't want to see you represented on the Supreme Court!!!!!

The share market reacted that Obama has collected a command of economic advisers - supporters of an additional package of stimulation of economy. This package will be offered after the new president and new structure of the Congress will start the duties. Optimism of the market is caused by hope that the new government will pour in the huge sum of money of the most suffered from crisis economy sector. Other question - what there will be more remote results of such steps. Because there is a question which now do not wish to set and which Obama does not wish to answer now - whence it takes money for stimulation?

i like daddy yankee but i dont think i agree with his vote; i mean im not racist or prejudice but as a latino american i think it should be a sin to team up with whites b4 blacks. blacks and latinos share the same history and to be specific blacks are part our history and yeah whites were too but ask and think too yourself how? the white man has in the past had both black and latino slaves. do you know any black or latino that owns a slave or has had one in the past? inm not racist or prejudice;im just saying.

This is a classic case of Miseducation on Yankee's part, how can he endorse a man who left his first wife after she was disfigured in a tragic accident and on bed rest, for his current wife, also McCain is so extremely rich and out of touch with the working poor and middle class, when asked how many houses he had, McCain stated he did not know what in the world would Mcain know about our struggles as a Latin people??? Daddy has a little piece of wealth compared to McCain the billionaire, so NOW he supports the rich white gringo who clearly missed the mark on Morals? Go ahead Yankee, get ya game right and read up on politics and race relations.... ya lost a fan!!
