Jessica Alba: "I Want My Baby to be Brown"

In Latina's March 2008 cover story, Jessica Alba gets personal with Editor-in-Chief Mimi Valdés Ryan and directly responds to the rumors that have resulted in her now-commonly used nickname, "Jessica 'Don't Call Me Latina' Alba." Check out some of her revealing answers below, and don't forget to pick up the full story when the issue hits newsstands on February 19!
On her reluctance to walk the red carpet at Latin events: "I'll support those shows, but I can't go on the press lines and have people make me feel bad about myself. Life is too short. I can't change how I grew up, and I shouldn't have to apologize for it. I know I feel close to the Latin community, because that's what I grew up with."
On claims that she's proud to have cut loose from her Mexican roots: "I never said that. Cut loose from what? What the hell are they talking about? Why would I want to cut loose from the only family I know?"
On not learning to speak Spanish as a child: "I wish to God that my dad spoke Spanish to my brother and me, but he didn't grow up with it."
On confusing other men for her dad as a kid: "When I was little, I used to go up to black men and hold their legs, thinking it was my dad all the time. I'd wrap my arms around them, then look up and be like, 'Oh my God!'"
On being accepted for who she is in Hollywood: "I was always trying to figure out: How the hell am I going to be mainstream? How are people going to accept me? When are the going to get a clue that I am American, that this is what America looks like--people like me who are mixed, have different blood, mixed with different ethnicities? When are the people who are hiring for these jobs and writing these screenplays going to realize that?"
On what she wants her baby to look like: "I'm excited for my baby to be brown. I just have to believe the dark gene is going to survive. Cash and I are like, please!"

Whatever... Jessica is gorgeous, but she is really ignorant and quite stupid... I am a Mexican-American and I am proud of it... She does not do any red carpet stuff for Latin events for the simple fact that she is white washed... I am pro everybody, but when it comes to me I am proud of who and what I am. She negates her heritage. In fact I did not even know she is half Mexican.

What is a "Latino" anyway.I am white and I ACTUALLY LIVE in Latinoamerica , my parents are white (they were born and race in Chile ) and I don`t look like what americans called a "Latino", I speak spanish and english but when I travel they still look at my passaport .Those famous so called latinos in USA do not even speak spanish, do not know anything about our history (everybody thinks that latioamerica is mexico!!!!! )Being a "latino" takes a little more than a few words of spanish , I speak english and they don`t think I m american (Duh!!)

Latinas piss me off, you marry and become pregnant with and by men of other races and expect us to accept it like it wasn't a huge betrayal to us Latin men, latin in that we speak spanish which originates from the Latin language spoken by the romans, but not so latin in that the majority of us are direct descendants of the native peoples of the americas, so then and hence really a bunch of indios, just ask Andrew Jackson, oh wait he is dead like many of you so called latin women are to us the true brown man, the true owners of the whole of the western hemisphere. Traitors like the malinche who rots in perpetual hell. Make no excuses for she is the consumate traitor, it apears as though her gene is alive and well here and now. If you are a brown woman who calls herself a Latina and marry, has kids with,is engaged to, or has any type of amorous relationship or sex with any man who is not a true boold(white men, black men of any country including latin america) then you are a traitor, a malinche worthy of expulsion from the race, from our people, and you should be disowned from your family, nor should your children be accepted as one of us. Your duty as women is to make more of us, to cultivate our seed not that of any other breed or creed of man.

e'tu brute...wow someone is angry...listen people have the right to be with whom ever they wish regardless of race, its love not the census bureau...look i dont know u i dont HAVE A DUTY 2 u get over yourself and your insecurities..are u serious...ur antiquated perspectives are the reason that latina women have to work hard to shed the barefoot & pregnant image..I am an educated independent women that can and does love a man that is not latino what are you going to condemn me to dante's inferno...my family is proudly mexican but my family tree begins elsewhere doesn't make me a lesser person just provides different perspectives...spreading genes is a good thing...an essential function of genetics actually...listen man be proud not derogotary or demeaning it may put a smile on your face letting go of some of that misdirected anger....

I actualy liked this article becase Jessica sort of tells how its hard to be accepted in the Latino Comunity when your a mixed race your ither not latino enough to fit in or u over do it to try and fit in .. im Mexican, Spanish,Gitano, and Native Amercican.. But un Like Jessica i was fortunate enough to be tought Spanish as a chiled. So in my opinion Jessisca is as much as Latino as any latino out regardless of wether she can speake Spanish or were she grew up .
