Camacho continued his trail of success in 1985 when, after moving up a weight class, he stole the WBC world Lightweight championship away from the defending world champion José Luis Ramírez. Though Ramírez put up a good fight, he was nothing for boxer on the rise Camacho who was declared the unanimous winner in a twelve round decision.
