1. How Milan Has Changed Her

How Milan Has Changed Her

“Well I think he’s taught me, in general, he’s taught me how to simplify because he requires me most of the time. So I have to kind of learn how to be a little more direct with my own work, with the way I tackle my work.”

2. On sharing photos of Milan through social media

“Gerard and I though…we often wondered how we were going to treat our public life how we were going to treat our situation as a family being public and all. How we were going to make sure Milan could take this in a natural way. Con naturalidad. So we often discussed how we never liked when they erase kids faces in photos. I don’t know we always found that a little bit weird and wondered what happens in the future when he looks at a bunch of magazines and his face is all erased. It’s going to be hard to explain to him that this is all to protect him. I feel like that kind overprotection could play against him.”

3. On her relationship with Gerard Pique

On her relationship with Gerard Pique

“We’re very much alike. We’re so similar. Our personalities are so similar we don’t understand how we get along so well, being so similar. We’re so compatible. We want the same things, we like the same things, we hate the same things. We’re so passionate the same way, we need passion the same way.”

4. On making her new album

On making her new album

“I remember when I met my manager he said, ‘We’re going to do this album in two months.’ And I started laughing and said, ‘You don’t know me Jay. This is going to be two years,’ and that’s exactly what it took.”

5. On her favorite song on the album

On her favorite song on the album

“There is a song called 23. Yeah it’s very special. It talks about how my life was when I met Gerard when he was 23 and then at the end of the record you hear little Milan.”

6. On creating in English versus Spanish

On creating in English versus Spanish

“English is a monosyllable language. It’s a language that has many words that are just one syllable. Which is very interesting in writing. In English with five words in a phrase you can express a sentiment but in Spanish it’s completely different, you need more space to express an idea or a thought. Obviously Spanish is my mother language…and there are many poetic licenses that you can take in Spanish that you can’t in English. So there are limitations. English is very direct language – that’s why it’s the language of advertising. You say it in Spanish and it sounds really cheesy. When I’m working in the studio it’s easier for me to speak English than Spanish because so many terms are technical and in English it’s easier. And maybe because most of the musicians I work with are English speakers its easier for me to work in English. “

7. On her relationship with Latino fans

“They know me so well. They know what I stand for, my principles who I am.”

8. On whether Milan will follow in her or his father’s footsteps

On whether Milan will follow in her or his father’s footsteps

“I don’t expect him to be a singer, a futbol player, or any of that. I just want him to have passion for something in life. I just want him to have drive. Whatever it is, even if its filing nails. I just want him to find something in life he’s really passionate about, whether its taking care of animals or taking care of people or building houses or being on stage anything at all, but I just want him to have passion. “
