Kevin Alejandro's career is hot, hot, hot! The 35-year-old Mexican actor, who previously starred as Detective Nate Moretta on TNT's critically acclaimed series, Southland, is a regular on the fourth season of HBO's hit show, True Blood, and is one of five actors being courted to possibly replace departing star Christopher Meloni on NBC's long-running drama, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU). We caught up with the hunky (and humble) Kevin to get the exclusive scoop on what's coming up for his character on True Blood's fourth season, and to find out about his SVU audition!

So far, your character Jesus on True Blood has been a really good boyfriend to Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis). But this is True Blood, so we have to ask: Is he hiding something?

I can definitely tell you that there’s some stuff that they go through that changes the dynamics of who they are and how they have to deal with the situation that’s put in front of them. You get to see a whole new side of both characters. There are definitely things that Lafayette doesn’t know {about him}, but there are things that come out that eventually Lafayette finds out.

Jesus is a witch and he seems to want to bring something out of Lafayette. Is it possible that Lafayette is a more powerful witch than Jesus?

I know the answer to the question and I’m not supposed to tell you!

POLL: Which 'True Blood' Character Uses Mexican Viagra in Season 4?

Jesus is a brujo, but we haven’t seen him do anything with magic yet. Are we going to see that in season four?

I can’t stress enough how crazy and amazing this season is going, and all of the crazy shit we all go through. Things that are unexpected happen, where you’re like, “what the f***?” There are definitely some jarring, spooky moments you’ll go through. I grew with brujos. I can relate to a lot of what goes on in the culture.

Did you film these scary scenes at night?

As you know with True Blood, we have reverse hours from most television shows. We come in in the middle of the day and you get out the next day when the sun comes up. It’s a lot of night shoots. It would be like 3 or 4 in the morning and we’re in the middle of the woods freezing and they set up all of these scary lights throughout the forrest. You can’t help but feel a little scared.

Valerie Cruz on Her "True Blood" Character: "I Modeled Her Accent After Penélope Cruz"

If this season of True Blood has a theme, what would it be?

The theme of this whole season is chaos — because things go crazy.

Sara Ramirez got a lot of not-so-nice letters when she began playing a gay orthopedic surgeon on Grey’s Anatomy. What has been the response to you playing a gay character, from the Latino community in particular?

It’s been very positive. I’ve been very lucky and fortunate that I haven’t gotten a negative response to it. Usually the Latinos that do talk to me are just proud that I’m working on something that’s such a big hit.

POLL: Which Latino Should Replace Christopher Meloni on 'Law & Order: SVU?'

Rumor has it you’re one of five actors being courted to replace Christopher Meloni on Law & Order: SVU. Is that true?

It’s accurate, man. I flew out to New York on Monday night, auditioned on Tuesday and tried to make it back to Los Angeles in time for the True Blood premiere. I still haven’t heard anything — every time I look at my phone, I hope it’s my manager, because I haven't heard yet.

It sounds like you would really love the opportunity?

Yeah, I think it would be an incredible experience. My wife and I and my kids love New York and I think it would be a step toward the next level of my career for me. I hope the stars align right — if its supposed to happen it will, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Did you have to screen test with star, Mariska Hargitay?

I love Mariska! The test of the audition was a chemistry read and I think we worked really well together.

Longtime Law and Order fans always wanted Stabler and Benson to hook up. Do you think that will happen with the new male lead?

I think it would be interesting, definitely.

What do you think needs to happen for the show to succeed without Christopher Meloni?

The chemistry between the two leads has to be up to par. Also, the open mindedness of the fans of the show, being willing to embrace the change and go with the change and not fight against or resist the change.

You were on SVU before—would you be playing a different character this time around?

I did a guest spot last year. I played a really great character and yes, I think so.

Everytime we read a casting report, you’re in it!

I’m just trying to enjoy myself and get a really great summer movie or just do my thing — continue to be happy. I’m a lucky man. I have a great family and a great job. I’m just going to continue to do that.
