Demi Lovato has had a rough year, but the former Disney princess announced recently that she’s back into the studio to record a new album! Looks like Demi, who quit her hit show Sonny With a Chance in April, will be focusing exclusively on her music for the time being. The singer/actress just released the art for her first single, called "Skyscraper" and we can't wait to hear it!
She says her new album will be “very therapeutic,” and an “inspiration for girls everywhere.” We couldn’t be happier for Demi and wish her the best in her latest step toward recovery. In fact, her announcement inspired us to come up with a list of cover song possibilities that could help her express her feelings on her tumultuous year…
Christina Aguilera, “Beautiful”
One of the things that drove Demi to rehab last year was her battle against eating disorders. The singer/actress has since spoken out about overcoming her body issues, so what better time than now to acknowledge her inner and outer beauty with Miss Aguilera’s powerful self-confidence ballad?
Britney Spears, “I’m Not a Girl…Not Yet a Woman”
Between traveling the world, performing in front of thousands and making major bank, Demi lives the life of a very successful adult…so we sometimes forget she’s still a teenager. We think Britney Spears—who knows a thing or two about growing up too fast—can remind Demi to slow down and enjoy being a kid for a little while longer.
Beyonce, “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)”
And now that he’s single again, Joe Jonas is trying to worm his way back into Demi’s life. He told Spanish-language site Revista Teen that he feels sure he “will recover the close friendship I had with Demi.” Really, Joe? If you liked it, then you shoulda put a ring on it!
Spice Girls, “Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)”
Though they haven’t been making any cute YouTube videos together lately, we’d like to think Demi and her BFF Selena Gomez are still tight. What better way to prove to the world that “friendship never ends” than by recording this masterpiece by the queens of bubble gum pop, the Spice Girls, as a duet?
Demi Lovato, “Believe in Me”
OK, so it’s not really a cover if you re-record your own song, but we think this song has a message that bears repeating. Plus, we think it would do Demi some good to remind herself that millions of girls look up to her. Earlier this week, a teenager from Utica, New York told the local newspaper that a lyric from this song (“I want to wake up feeling beautiful today”) is her daily M.O. Being able to touch a complete stranger with your words has gotta make you feel pretty good.
