Pitbull made sure not to leave out our own diva, Jenni Rivera, when he closed the show at last night’s VH1 Divas held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
“I wanna say rest in peace to la diva Jenni Rivera,” he said before belting out “Don’t Stop the Party” in his signature suit and shades.
The show, which honored Whitney Houston and Donna Summer by bringing together some today’s hottest singers, included performances by Demi Lovato, Ciara, Kelly Rowland, Iggy Azalea, and Miley Cyrus.
Half Spanish breakout artist Paloma Faith, who recently signed to LA Reid’s Epic Records, was also on the lineup. Sporting a blondish red bouffant and heavy metal gold embellished midi dress, she took time on the red carpet to explain her roots.
“My father is from Salamanca, Spain and my mother’s English, but a massive fan of Pablo Picasso’s work,” said the Etta James-inspired singer who performed “Picking up the Pieces” off her Fall to Grace debut album. “His daughter was called Paloma and a lot of his paintings of doves were for her.”
Perhaps the most festive on the red carpet was Kelly Rowland, who wore a beautiful jewel-toned green dress, and said she’s looking forward to eating, drinking and watching Christmas movies with her family this season. Rowland also paid her respects to the late Mexican singer.
“My best friend called me about the news and I’m keeping her and her family in my prayers,” Rowland said.
In true diva fashion, entrepreneur and TV star La La Anthony was excited to share news of her new clothing line that just came out.
“It’s called 5th and Mercer,” said Anthony who just wrapped a movie with Paula Patton, Adam Brody, and Christina Milian called Baggage Claim and one with Hill Harper called 1982. “I did a deal with Shopbop.com and it’s selling really fast, so I want to do more stuff in the clothing space.”
As for Anthony’s Christmas plans, her hubbie Melo will be on the road with the Knicks playing the Lakers in Los Angeles, so she plans to spend it with her family.
“You know, loud music, good food, and just enjoy being around people that love you and you love.”
