Demi Lovato wants to help her family carve the turkey this Thanksgiving.
The 18-year-old Disney star, who checked into the Illinois rehab center, Timberline Knolls a few weeks ago for “emotional and physical issues,” is hoping to leave rehab early to be with her family before the holidays.
“She doesn’t want to be in the center for Thanksgiving and wants to go home,” a source tells E! News, adding that Demi is “getting better.”
But a Disney Channel insider tells E! News that even though Demi plans to leave rehab early, she will not be going back to work on her hit Disney series, Sonny With a Chance “until after the New Year.”
Last weekend, Disney announced that Demi’s show Sonny With a Chance will shift its focus from its title character Sonny Munroe (Lovato) to focus on the show-within-the-show, “So Random!” in order to give Demi ample time to recover.
Demi's rep told People today that the Disney starlet will not be going home for Thanksgiving, as had been previously reported. But the rep explained that Demi's family "will be there to celebrate Thanksgiving with her," while Demi continues getting help for "emotional and physical issues."
The rep added that Demi is getting better. "She remains committed first and foremost to her treatment. Demi has made tremendous progress to date, but understands that she has more work to do."
Lovato's Sonny With a Chance costar, Sterling Knight told EOnline that Demi is doing well in rehab.
"She's in good spirits," said Knight. "I didn't want to bother her too much because I want her to get her rest. I know she's been overworked for a long time. I'm hoping she stays strong and gets through it," he said.
Knight said he's happy to see Demi working less and taking time to herself. "I know she's been real busy—almost entirely too busy for any human being, let alone a 17-year-old girl," he said. "It's nice that she's handling her stuff."
