A star is born!
In a clip posted to YouTube, an 11-year-old Shakira wows a crowd at her school's talent contest in Barranquilla, Colombia. According to the time stamp on the recording, the competition was on Sept. 10, 1988.
The future superstar performs a 15-minute set, first performing "Sin Él" by Marisela before launching into an interpretation of Timbiriche's "Quinceañera." Finally, the preteen shows off her infamous hip moves, donning a crop top and flowing magenta skirt for a performance of "Aatini Al Nay" by Lebanese singer Fairuz. Nearly 20 years later, Shakira made this song famous after performing it on her "Oral Fixation" tour in 2006.
Clearly, the fearless Latina was born to be on the stage. Over twenty years later, Shakira, now 37, performs on some of the biggest stages in the world. This Sunday, she's set to sing her single "Dare (La La La)" in front of an international audience at the 2014 FIFA World Cup closing ceremony! Way to go, Shak!
