Congratulations to Rosario Dawson on her new role: mommy!
A source confirmed to PEOPLE that the 35-year-old actress adopted a daughter earlier this year. The insider did not comment upon the child's age. Page Six broke the news on Tuesday, reporting that the girl was 12-years-old.
Dawson has long considered adopting a child. The Top Five star, who was adopted by her stepfather Greg Dawson, spoke to us back in October 2008 about her desire to adopt children in the future.
"I've always wanted to adopt kids 'cause my dad adopted me. The idea has stayed in the back of my head, but lately, I've been thinking about it more," she told us. "My mother and grandmother are extraordinary women, and they're getting older. It struck me recently that one day I might be sitting around with my children, going, 'Your grandma was an amazing woman; I really wish you could've known her.' Whatever time I have, I want it."
We couldn't be happy for Rosario! Best wishes to her and her new hija!
