Mario Lopez on his New Reality Show, "Saved by the Baby"

Mario Lopez has a new reality show about juggling his responsibilities as the host of Extra with becoming a new dad. The show is called Saved by the Baby (premiering tonight at 10:30 p.m. on VH1) and Lopez, who is best known for his role as wrestler A.C. Slater on Saved by the Bell, says he likes the title.

"I thought it was funny," he gushed. "I didn’t want to take it too seriously. I wanted to have a light funny tone and so I thought it was kind of funny when we thought of it."

Added Lopez: "I think enough time has gone by [since Saved by the Bell ended] where I can kind of laugh at it."
These days, Lopez isn’t the gallivanting bachelor he used to be. The new dad, whose daughter Gia Francesca was born in September, has settled down with his girlfriend Courtney Mazza and spends all of his free time with Gia.

"I know that you’re going to see a side of me that you’ve never seen before," explained Lopez. "Following me around with all of the different jobs that I do, with my friends, and taking this journey of being a first time father—hopefully it will prove entertaining."

Lopez says he has high hopes for the show. "I’m happy with the way the show is turning out. It’s pretty funny and it’s playing kind of like a sitcom. But it’s got a lot of heart too," he said.
