Mariah Carey will perform today at the public memorial service for Michael Jackson, to be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California today at 10AM PST. Announcement of Jackson's memorial service created a huge outpouring from fans, with more than 1.6 million people applying for the  8,750 free tickets given away for the event.

Mariah Carey first stepped into MJ's shoes back in 1992 when she covered one of the Jackson Five's greatest hits, "I'll Be There" for her MTV Unplugged album. The song quickly became Carey's sixth number one single in the U.S.

According to a statement released by the Jackson family, Mimi will be joined by a bevy of other superstars paying tribute to the king of pop, including Jennifer Hudson, Stevie Wonder, Usher, John Mayer, Lionel Richie and Motown founder Berry Gordy. The event will be broadcast live and one billion people across the world are expected to tune in on
television and the internet.

Mariela Rosario,

I'm a raging opinionista and I love to share my ramblings on everything from pop culture to food to stuff that makes me laugh & cry! I've worked in all types of media (TV, film, print) and was previously the online editor at Latina magazine before joining Mamás Latinas. On most nights you can find me working my way through my library of cookbooks or playing with my puppy Lola (my only child so far). I have a wonderful hubby who shares my passion for any and all kinds of travel. Together, we've formed a semi-professional wine drinking team.
