Grab a tissue! During a performance at the Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival in February, Mariah Carey paid tribute to the late George Michael with a beautiful cover of his hit, “One More Try.”
The "We Belong Together" singer shared the heartfelt tribute on Facebook as part of her #FBF last week.
Before singing the 1988 tune, the pop star told the audience, "In honor of him, this is George Michael, one of his greatest records." Carey also added, "I always loved it, I always loved him. He was a really great person. So we'll make it through this."
Carey previously recorded a cover of the song in 2014, in which the songwriter gave it his stamp of approval.
“@MariahCarey thank u for recording One more try. Such an honour 2 have one of the best voices in the world singing my song,” Michael wrote on Twitter.
However, this is not the first time the mother-of-two has spoken out publically of the English singer since passing away from heart and liver disease on Christmas Day. Shortly after news broke of the “Careless Whisper” singer's sudden death, Mimi took to her website to remember the music icon.
“George was only 53 at the time of his passing. He left us way too soon,” the popstar wrote. She also added, “He was a genius that gave us classics like ‘Faith’ as well as boundary pushing singles ‘I Want Your Sex’ and ‘Father Figure.’ He also gave us the FIRST modern Christmas classic with ‘Last Christmas.’”
