The A List: Zac Efron

Angie Martinez is convinced there’s a little Latin in everybody. Here, Zac Efron, star
of 17 Again, professes his love for crazy Spanish-speaking fans and Javier Bardem.

Angie: How are your Latin fans different?
Zac: Spain was out of control. Fans were more excited there than anywhere else. And in Mexico, Vanessa [Hudgens] and I had to hide out in the theater after the premiere of the most recent High School Musical. It was like our bunker. There were so many people outside.

Do you keep up with all the blogs? Perez Hilton writes something about you almost every day.
Once in a while, my friends say, “This was posted about you today,” but I don’t pay attention. It’s just not smart.

Okay, so which Latin actor is your fave?
Javier Bardem’s performance in No Country for Old Men was the most brilliant thing I’ve ever seen! Especially the gas station scene.

Wow, that’s pretty dark!
Yeah. [laughs] I hope to be that caliber of actor. He can play anyone.

You’ve already worked with Kenny Ortega. Any other Latin directors you’re hoping will cast you?
Oh yeah. Guillermo del Toro!
