Whether he's at the Oscars or the Golden Globes, it's no secret that Eva Mendes is often noticeably missing from Ryan Gosling's side. Tracking down a photo of these two together is often impossible because they rarely, if ever, walk down a red carpet. And they've become pretty stealth at keeping the paparazzi at bay.

But there's a reason why Mendes keeps herself behind the scenes.

Appearing on the April cover of SHAPE magazine, the Cuban American actress explained her absence. “What people don’t know about me is that I love being home," she explained. "Instead of hitting the red carpet, I’d rather be with our girls.” Aww! Who can blame her?

Though not in sight, Mendes is certainly never out of mind. At the 2017 Golden Globe Awards, Gosling won for Best Performance by an Actor for his film La La Land, which he dedicated to Mendes, their daughters and her late brother. “While I was singing and dancing…my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second, while helping her brother battle cancer,” he said. “If she hadn’t taken all of that on so I could have this experience it would surely be someone else up here other than me. Sweetheart, thank you and to my daughters, Amada and Esmeralda, I love you."

Ugh. Making our hearts flutter!

Mendes later responded to Gosling's recognition in the most discreet way — by sharing a photo from her favorite red carpet look of the night, along with a nod to her man's speech. “Obviously this wasn’t my favorite moment of the night, ” she captioned an image of Janelle Monae. “But it was definitely my favorite style moment of the night."
