Edgar Ramirez has joined the fight against gender inequality, speaking Tuesday at a U.N. Women's HeForShe initiative at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

The Venezuelan "Joy" actor called out "macho" culture for teaching boys and men not to feel their emotions and telling them to dominate women.

"Male adolescents are taught to be dominant, tough and disrespect women," he said, noting how doing so leads to violence against women and mental illnesses like depression because men aren’t dealing with their feelings in a healthy manner.
