The couple, who dated for six years, decided it was time to go their separate ways. But no one was more affected by the split than Demi herself. On her new documentary, Simply Complicated, Lovato talked about her recent eating disorder relapse post-Valderrama.

“I relapsed with throwing up, binging and purging, a couple nights ago,” the singer told her manager, Phil McIntyre. “What started the relapse was missing Wilmer.”

While Lovato revealed she “went three years without purging” when dating the 70's Show alum, she admitted her breakup back in June 2016 triggered the relapse. “When I feel lonely, my heart feels hungry and then I end up binging,” she explained.

Although the singer celebrated her five years of sobriety this past March, her bulimia has been a constant battle she's dealt with from an early age. The former Disney Channel star revealed her eating disorder first started when she was bullied in school by some girls when she was just 12-years-old. Her mother, who also struggled with bulimia, said that when the 25-year-old was younger she believed the key to success in Hollywood was being skinny.

“The less I have to think about food, the easier it is to go about having a normal life and I don’t want to let anybody down so when I do have moments when I slip up, I feel very ashamed,” the star said in the documentary.
