Christina Aguilera traveled to Haiti earlier this week to meet children at two schools who have been receiving food through the World Food Programme's initiatives. Recently named a WFP Ambassador Against Hunger, Aguilera helped to serve the children meals of rice and beans and even set aside some time to sing "Happy Birthday to Haiti" with the kids as a symbol of the rebirth of the devastated nation.
The pop star, who traveled to the stricken country with her husband Jordan Bratman said in a statement, "I was so moved by the devastation in Haiti but also by the spirit of its people. [The children] have such joy and are eager to learn despite the destruction around them."
She also paid a visit to mothers and children who have been struggling to survive in refugee camps since a 7.0 earthquake rocked the island nation in January of this year. "The children deserve a chance and I want to make sure they get a chance," Aguilera told people.com. Just another reason to love this Latina covergirl.
If you'd like to follow in Christina's footsteps, be sure to visit www.wfp.org/christina to donate. "We can bring food to these mothers and children and help them rebuild their lives," says Aguilera.
