Christina Aguilera Named Ambassador for World Hunger

Christina Aguilera was recently named a global ambassador by the World Hunger Relief non-profit organization.The Dirrrty singer says she accepted the position because she hopes to "raise awareness about the issue and move people from hunger to hope."

Speaking to Extra about the new appointment she said that as a mother she can not ignore the fact that there are children going hungry in the world, "It is unacceptable that a child dies every six seconds somewhere around the world from hunger." The Grammy winner gave birth to son Max Liron last year.

Aguilera has repeatedly lent her name to a variety of worthwile charities since gaining fame with her break out hit "Genie in a Bottle" back in 1999. World Hunger Relief is just the latest in a string of good causes the singer supports. Over the years she has also helped out the Women's Cancer Research Fund and Rock the Vote with their efforts.
