Although the stunning Camila Alves has already been spotted out and about after giving birth to Vida, her 3-week old baby girl with boyfriend Matthew McConaughey—she is still holding off on a lot of postpartum activities. As a matter of fact, in a recent interview with stylelist.com, the model and new host of Shear Genius on Bravo revealed that she is enforcing the time honored Latina tradition of the “cuarentena.”
“Where I come from, we believe in something we call a 40-day break after the baby. You have to let your body do its own thing. You give it time to recover and let everything settle down. In a way, it is nice. There is not so much pressure. You kind of respect all the hard work your body has just done and give it a break. For these 40 days you really take it easy. By that I mean no sex, light, healthy food, no trips to the gym. Then, after 40 days, you are good to go.”
Traditionally, just as the Brazileña indicated, the cuarentena is a period set aside for new mothers to let their bodies heal after the trauma of childbirth. We love the fact that Camila is not only enforcing this techinique, but also has no qualms about sharing it with the rest of the world. We’re sure McConaughey is OK with the 40-day no sex policy, the adorable little Vida is more than worth it!
