Calle 13's René Pérez and Former Miss Universe Denise Quiñones Break Up

Another one bites the dust! The relationship between two of Puerto Rico's beloved stars, former Miss Universe 2001, Denise Quiñones and lead singer of Calle 13, René Pérez (aka Residente) is officially over. Shirley Rodríguez, publicist for Calle 13, confirmed the split, telling Puerto Rican newspaper Primera Hora, "Yes, it's true. Neither of them are trying to hide the fact that the relationship is over. I can't offer any more details, but I know that they will continue to be friends."
The pair started dating back in 2006 after meeting on the set of Nelly Furtado's music video for "No Hay Igual" featuring Calle 13, which was filmed in the notoriously rough La Perla neighborhood of San Juan. Shortly after going public with their relationship, tabloids reported that Quiñones's parents were unhappy with her choice of the wild and crazy Pérez as a boyfriend. The duo responded to the rumors with a tongue-in-cheek parody of the relationship in the music video for "Tango del Pecado," in which they acted out a faux marriage.
Like so many other famous couples, the relationship was doomed by the harsh scheduling demands that come along with celebrity. Quiñones has been busy acting in various theatrical productions in NYC, while Calle 13's rising star has demanded constant travel throughout Latin America for shows and interviews.
