Teen sensation Justin Bieber may have been the big winner at last night’s American Music Awards (AMA’s), but Latin stars did manage to take home a trophy or two at the awards show, held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.
Though she wasn’t there to accept her award, colombiana Shakira beat out Boricua Daddy Yankee and Spanish singer, Enrique Iglesias for Best Latin Music Artist. Over 50% of readers we asked thought that she should win the award, so it seems like the award went to the right woman! The Black Eyed Peas (Fergie and Taboo are both part Mexican) also won for Favorite Pop Rock Band/Duo/Group, beating out Lady Antebellum and Train.
Latin stars also gave some of the night's most memorable performances. The Black Eyed Peas got the party started with a high-energy performance of their techno dance track, "The Time (Dirty Brit)" off their new album, The Beginning, hitting stores November 30. Christina Aguilera gave a flirty performance of "Express," a sexy song and dance number from her upcoming movie, Burlesque (out November 24). Enrique Iglesias also sang his hit single, "Tonight," and was later joined on stage by a drumline and Pitbull. The duo made the crowd go wild during a performance of their Jersey Shore anthem, "I Like It." Carlos Santana also performed.
