1. Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition 2014

Sports Illustrated took a leap of faith when they ditched the tatas for nalgas, featuring Nina Agdal, Lily Aldridge and Chrissy Teigen's perky backsides on the cover of their 50th Anniversary Swimsuit Edition. What makes this story more remarkable is the fact that the publication has only featured women posing with their butts facing the camera three times in their history.

2. Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj got everybody talking about ample behinds when she released her sizzling video for "Anaconda." The track — which appropriately sampled "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix A Lot — peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, and became the ubiquitous anthem of summer for big bootied and small bootied girls alike. The video, which featured tons of gratituous shots of Minaj's fit-and-fabulous behind, accumulated over 330 million views.

3. Meghan Trainer in All About That Bass

In June, Meghan Trainor dropped the ridiculously catchy jam "All About That Bass." The dubiously feminist track lauded curvy bodies while shaming 'skinny bitches.' While we don't condone body shaming of any kind, Trainor did get people talking about the beauty of booty. Just take a look at some of the lyrics: "My mama she told me don't worry about your size/She says, 'Boys like a little more booty to hold at night.'/You know I won't be no stick figure Silicone Barbie Doll/If that's what you're into then go ahead and move along."

4. Kim Kardashian on Paper Magazine

In 2014, Kim Kardashian made it her mission to #BreakTheInternet — using nothing but the junk in her trunk. The reality television star, who showed off her bare bum in a revealing cover shoot for Paper magazine, became the ire of the Internet. Everybody in America has now seen Kim K's booty — either by peeking at the cover, or viewing one of these hilarious memes.

5. Beyonce in "7/11"

Beyoncé very nearly broke the Internet herself when she posted her home-edited music video for "7/11." The upbeat clip featured Bey and her friends shaking those booties all over the place — on the balcony, by the Christmas tree, in the bathroom, in the kitchen. Everywhere.

6. Jennifer Lopez in "Booty"

Jennifer Lopez definitely gets the credit for bringing butts into the mainstream. This sexy boricua rocked her sizeable assets even before Vogue deemed it stylish. This year, Lopez reminded us all that she is — and always will be — the queen of the booty when she dropped her sizzling track, "Booty."
