Benicio del Toro Meets Hugo Chavez
by Shani Saxon-Parrish | 03.05.2009 | 11:00am | 3 Comments

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is no stranger to Hollywood’s A-list, so it only makes sense that he would bring Benicio del Toro into his fold. The two actaully have a lot in common. Del Toro stars as revolutionary icon Ernesto “Che” Guevara in Che, and Chavez is an avid fighter for socialism who thinks of himself as quite the celebrity. The AP reports Del Toro met with Chavez, and was then mobbed by adoring fans before attending a screening of the two-part, 4 1/2-hour film biography.
Del Toro wouldn’t give too many details about his conversation with Chavez, but told reporters afterwards that he had "a good time with the president." He then added that Chavez is “nice.” The actor also toured Chave’s state-run Cinema Town, a film production facility that opened in 2006 with $13 million in government funding. It was launched to help Venezuela produce its own films as an alternative to what Chavez calls Hollywood's "cultural imperialism."

People in the US are so quick to judge the way others run their countries...they actually believe we live in a 100% democracy. The American Dream in the last 50-60 years has become a tortured nightmare that we cannot wake up out of. Keep your minds open...let Del Torro visit who ever he pleases
