Angelina Jolie Visits Colombian Refugees

Splash News

Angelina Jolie is visiting Ecuador to bring attention to Colombian refugees in honor of World Refugee Day. The violence and fighting that has been going on for decades between the FARC and the Colombian government has caused over a hundred thousand innocent people to flee the country. In addition to the refugees, many people do not know that Colombia is second only to the Darfur region of the Sudan with an estimated one million internally displaced people. Refugees are those who flee the country, while internally displaced people stay in the country but are forced to flee their homes.

Jolie had a chance to talk with one woman (her identity was protected for security reasons) about crossing the border and the violence she experienced in Colombia. Check out the video below:

Mariela Rosario,

I'm a raging opinionista and I love to share my ramblings on everything from pop culture to food to stuff that makes me laugh & cry! I've worked in all types of media (TV, film, print) and was previously the online editor at Latina magazine before joining Mamás Latinas. On most nights you can find me working my way through my library of cookbooks or playing with my puppy Lola (my only child so far). I have a wonderful hubby who shares my passion for any and all kinds of travel. Together, we've formed a semi-professional wine drinking team.
