Shakira is putting her money where her mouth is, as she so often does, by stepping up to the plate and announcing that her children's education non-profit Pies Descalzos will be helping to build a new school in Haiti. The Colombian pop star is partnering up with Pies Descalzos board member Howard Buffett (also the World Food Program Ambassador Against Hunger) and Architecture for Humanity to build the school.

The recent financial crisis has hit everyone hard, even super celebs like Christina Aguilera. The "Beautiful" pop star has been struggling to sell her house since April 2008. The 6,500-square-foot house, built in 1960, boasts views of downtown Los Angeles and the ocean and was originally put on the market for $7,995,000.

Though Lady Gaga has been getting a ton of the attention from the media these days, she is going to be forced to share the international spotlight when her Monster Ball tour stops in NYC tonight. Gaga is scheduled to play four (impressively) sold out shows at Radio City Music Hall, but Bronx-born bachata group Aventura managed to one-up her, selling out Madison Square Garden (which holds more than double the capacity of Radio City) for a quartet of concerts also kicking off this evening.

Jennifer Lopez could soon be trading in her diamonds for a hair net to play a lunch lady on the hit show Glee.
Show creator Ryan Murphy spoke to People backstage at the Golden Globes after Glee won for best comedy or musical TV series and said that he’s hoping Lopez will agree to make an appearance.

Ricky Martin landed in Haiti yesterday to do some hands-on volunteering in the shaken country. Martin traveled with Habitat for Humanity CEO Jonathan Reckford to the capital city of Port-Au-Prince and was deeply effected by all that he saw.

A lot of people don’t realize that I’m Latina, which is fine. One thing about being Latina is that there isn’t one look that comes with the territory. I don’t expect people to know my cultural background just by glancing at me. I do, however, expect that when I tell people my family is from Puerto Rico, that I will be believed and not accused of trying to be something that I’m not. It usually goes something like this: a person having a conversation with me discovers one way or another that I’m Puerto Rican and fluent in Spanish.
