On March 29, 2010, Ricky Martin announced to the world on his website, rickymartinmusic.com that he is a "fortunate homosexual man," and explained why he had, up to that point, been quiet about his sexual orientation. "A few months ago I decided to write my memoirs, a project I knew was going to bring me closer to an amazing turning point in my life. From the moment I wrote the first phrase I was sure the book was the tool that was going to help me free myself from things I was carrying within me for a long time." While promoting his memoir, Me, Ricky made the talk show rounds, even appearing on Oprah for a revealing interview about his experience coming out, and how he's now fully embracing being gay. Ricky, who revealed he’s in an “amazing” relationship right now, didn’t seem to regret much, except one thing: “If I knew how amazing it was going to feel [to come out], trust me, I would have done this 10 years ago.”
A few of our favorite stars got pregnant this year. On October 28, we reported that 40-year-old singer, Mariah Carey was pregnant with her first child. We were thrilled for Mimi, especially since she had suffered a miscarriage following her April 2008 wedding to hubby Nick Cannon that had her crying herself to sleep. Mimi has said that despite her struggles to get pregnant, she and Nick never gave up on their dream of having a child. She explained that she began taking progesterone, a hormone that helps maintain pregnancy in women susceptible to miscarriage. Nick even revealed that Mariah used once-a-day acupuncture “all over her body,” to help get rid of stress. When Mariah finally got pregnant, “it was priceless,” said Nick. “We definitely cried. We still cry all the time. It’s an emotional journey.”
On September 14, Penélope Cruz's rep officially confirmed that the 36-year-old Spanish actress is expecting a baby with her new hubby, Javier Bardem, 41! "Penélope is 4 and 1/2 months pregnant," Cruz's rep told Latina.com.The Oscar winning couple married this past July in an intimate ceremony at a friend's house in the Bahamas attended only by an intimate group of family members. This will be the first child for Bardem and Cruz.
Demi Lovato's Breakdown
In early November, singer-actress Demi Lovato shocked the world when she decided to leave the Jonas Brothers World Tour early to enter medical treatment "for emotional and physical issues." Before the news broke, everyone had associated Demi with Disney and she had a clean cut image as an adorable teen star of popular Disney Channel movies like Princess Protection Program and Camp Rock. As the story of Demi's rehab stint unfolded, the world found out that Demi has struggled with self-mutilation and eating disorders for several years. We also learned that the star had a physical altercation with a backup dancer on an airplane and that the fight was the reason she decided to check herslef into rehab. "Afterwards, Demi felt awful about her behavior and realized she needed to take personal responsibility for it," said a source. "Because of this, and because of the battles Demi has fought throughout her life, both she and her family realized she needed to take steps to get help immediately." Demi recently settled out of court with Alex Welch, the backup dancer whom she allegedly attacked last month. She recently spent Christmas day out of rehab with her family.
Till Death Do us Part — Hollywood Edition
2010 was the year that Latina celebs said “I do” to getting married — and they all picked the same weekend to get hitched!
On July 12, La La Vasquez wed Denver Nuggets star, Carmelo Anthony at Cipriani Restaurant in New York City. That wedding took place on the same weekend that Penelope Cruz married Javier Bardem in the Bahamas. On October 10th, Spy Kids actress Alexa Vega tied the knot with her fiancé Sean Covel in Lead, South Dakota, and the very next day, actress Odette Yustman said "I do" to her boyfriend of two years, Brothers & Sisters star, Dave Annable, in Ojai, California. Finally, December 12th was the day that Nicole Richie married her longtime boyfriend, Joel Madden at her dad, Lionel Richie's Los Angeles estate, but Nicole wasn't the only Latina celeb getting married that day — on the East Coast, Better With You star, JoAnna Garcia was having her own magical beach wedding to New York Yankees outfielder, Nick Swisher at the Breakers Hotel & Resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
Without a doubt 2010 was the year for Latina celeb weddings, but it was also, unfortunately, the year many celebs split up. Christina Millian's divorce from producer, The-Dream, was the first big breakup of the year when it was first reported in February, but that was only the beginning. In September, Ann Lopez filed for divorce from comedian George Lopez after 17 years of marriage! Christina Aguilera also called it quits with her husband of seven years, Jordan Bratman in October, citing the usual "irreconcilable differences," as the reason for the split. And on November 17th, the biggest divorce story of the year broke when Desperate Housewives star, Eva Longoria filed for divorce from her husband of three years, Tony Parker, after finding hundreds of text messages from another woman on his phone.
An Idol, Judge
On September 22nd, American Idol host Ryan Seacrest announced what the world had known for weeks — Jennifer Lopez would be joining Steven Tyler and longtime judge Randy Jackson as a judge on the tenth season of American Idol. Even though we already knew it was happening, we have to admit that we got chills when we saw our girl J.Lo appear on stage during the live streaming announcement online. When Seacrest asked La Lopez what she was most looking forward to in her new gig as an Idol judge, she said, "I’m looking for the next Michael Jackson!" And being the great businesswoman that she is, J.Lo was able to secure no less than 12 million dollars for the new TV gig! Not too shabby!
A Clean Slate
Perez Hilton didn't wait until December to come up with his New Year's resolution for 2011. On October 13, he tweeted this video in which the Cuban blogger told the world that it was time for him, and his website, Perezhilton.com to change. "I have been thinking a lot over the last week and a half about some very serious issues, the issue of teen suicide, the issue of gay bullying," Perez said. "Since the rash of recent suicides I've really been working hard in big and small ways to bring attention to the issue and to encourage others to do their part, and I need to do my part and step up to the plate. I need to be the solution and not part of the problem." Overnight, Perezhilton.com underwent a total makeover. Perez stopped calling celebs names (for instance, he began calling Jennifer Aniston by her name and not by "MANiston" the nickname he had given her. “Would people still visit my site if I was less salacious?" Perez asks in the video. So far it seems to be working just fine!

Shakira treated thousands of thrilled fans to one last rendition of the World Cup anthem, "Waka Waka." in South Africa. Shaki was accompanied by the local South African fusion band, Freshlyground. At the end of the show, South Africa took the opportunity to thank the global community in many different languages for supporting the first ever World Cup held in Africa.
The End of In the Heights
In October, it was announced that after three years, four Tony's and movie deal, the musical hit In the Heights would be ending its run on Broadway with the last show on January 9, 2011. The show's creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda would be returning for the last two weeks of the show's run, reprising his role as the loveable bodega owner Usnavi. Even though it's coming to an end, the show about a close-knit community of hard-working Latinos striving for the American Dream will live on forever. We can't wait for the movie!

It is bittersweet to announce the end of what has been a very rewarding experience, but after many wonderful years, now is the perfect time to retire the show and move on to the next exciting phase of my career." On Nov. 1st, her final show ever, Cristina fought back tears as she told fans this wasn't the end. “I cannot put into words how much I will miss all of you,” she said, her voice breaking up. “But I’m not retiring,” she added while giving the camera a stern look. She also pledged to continue her show elsewhere. "There's going to be Cristina for a while." We'll follow her anywhere!
