Tomorrow is Spirit Day and a bunch of our celebs plan on wearing purple in support of LGBT youth! According to the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), those confirmed include Extra host Mario Lopez, Mexican singer Paulina Rubio, and our March cover girl Sara Ramirez from hit show Grey’s Anatomy. In its second year, Spirit Day was founded by a teenager named Brittany McMillan and calls for its participant to don the color purple in support young Lesbian, Gay Bi-sexual and Transgendered teens.
Boricua superstar Ricky Martin gave Spirit Day a shout-out via Twitter yesterday, encouraging his followers to participate. “End anti-LGBT bullying - wear purple & make your profile pic purple for #SpiritDay 10/20,” the singer wrote. Martin sported a new profile photo tinted in a purple hue. Mexican actress Kate del Castillo also tweeted her support of the day: “Join me in wearing purple on 10/20 to support LGBT teens,” she advocated.
We’re proud that some of our biggest celebrities are helping to spread the word – and will be on the look out for a sea of purple tomorrow!
Will you be part of Spirit Day?
