Where Are They Now? Checking In With Some Familiar Latino Faces

Hollywood is always pumping out new stars for us to love—hello, Tyler Posey!— but sometimes you just want to stop and ask where some of those memorable ones went.

Here’s an update on some familiar Latino faces.

1. Where Are They Now?: Erik Estrada

You remember him from: CHiPs! The popular police series aired from 1977-1983, and afterward Puerto Rican actor Estrada went on to star in one of the most popular Spanish-language telenovelas of all time, Dos Mujeres, Un Camino.

What he’s up to now: Estrada will be returning to the small screen this year as the first star confirmed for the second season of Univision's hit dancing competition Mira Quién Baila! (think a Spanish Dancing with the Stars).

2. Where Are They Now?: Rick Sanchez

You remember him from: Rick Sanchez rose to prominence as one of the first journalists to actively incorporate social media into his reporting on his CNN show, Rick's List. He was fired after an interview in September of 2010 in which he called John Stewart a bigot and insinuated that Jews controlled the media.

What he’s up to now: Sanchez has landed a new job as a football radio announcer for Florida International University.

3. Where are they now?: Raquel Castro

You remember her from: Jersey Girl, in which she played Jennifer Lopez’s daughter.

What she’s up to now: Making music. The Puerto Rican actress/singer also covered Selena’s "Amor Prohibido" in honor of the anniversary of the tejano singer’s death on March 31.

4. Where are they now?: Tyler Posey

You remember him from: Maid in Manhattan, in which he played Jennifer Lopez’s son.

What he’s up to now: The Mexican American actor stars in MTV’s Teen Wolf series, about a newly bitten teen werewolf, set to premiere on June 5.

5. Where are they now?: Jackie Guerra

Jackie Guerra

You remember her from: Selena, in which she played the singer’s sister, Suzette.

What she’s up to now: After losing 170 pounds, the formerly hefty Mexican American comedian has transformed herself into an obesity and weight-loss expert, most recently appearing on Tyra.

6. Where are they now?: Eduardo Verastegui

You remember him from: Chasing Papi, Bella

What he’s up to now: The Mexican heartthrob-turned-devout-Catholic movie director, who scored an indie hit with the anti-abortion drama Bella in 2006, has been quiet since then. But he hopes to be back this year with a new movie, Cristiada, about a Catholic rebellion against the secularization of Mexico.

7. Where are they now?: Luis Armand Garcia

You remember him from: The George Lopez Show, where he played George’s son Max.

What he’s up to now: After the show was cancelled in 2007, Luis went on to be a normal kid, going to a normal high school, into normal things like football and skateboarding, according to his MySpace page. No word on whether the Mexican American child actor has plans to return to acting.

8. Where are they now?: Freddie Prinze Jr.

You remember him from: The short-lived 2005 sitcom, Freddie.

What he’s up to now: After a brief return to TV, appearing on 24’s final season in 2009, Prinze is taking another break from Hollywood. The Puerto Rican thesp is a producer and director for World Wrestling Entertainment.

9. Where are they now?: Jorge Garcia

You remember him from: Lost, where he played fan favorite Hurley.                 

What he’s up to now: He hasn’t been gone for even a year, but we miss his cool dude attitude on TV so much that it feels like eight years (cameos in How I Met Your Mother and Fringe are not enough!). Thankfully, JJ Abrams, creator of Lost, has cast him in the pilot for his latest creation, Alcatraz. Jorge will play “hippy geek,” who is the world’s foremost Alcatraz expert and helps to investigate the reappearance of guards that mysteriously disappeared from the island jail decades ago.
