Puerto Rican hip-hop duo Calle 13 opened the Latin Grammy Awards with their hit song "Latinoamerica," which frontman Rene Perez dedicated to Latin Americans everywhere. "May this transport you to your roots, your streets... and may you feel it here in your chest," said Perez.
Demi Lovato performed a highly anticipated duet tonight with Best New Artist nominee Pablo Alboran, singing "Solamente Tu," (in Spanish no less!) while Mana shared the stage with bachatero Prince Royce ("Lluvia al Corazon," and "El Verdadero Amor Perdona)."
Meanwhile, Colombian actress Sofia Vergara introduced her compatriot Shakira, who was honored as the Latin Grammys Person of the Year. (Shakira performed three songs, including her hit "Loca").
"What better than to receive it from Sofia, we lived closed to each other in Barranquilla, (Colombia) that's what people don't know," Shakira said accepting the award. "This is without a doubt one of the most important moments of my life."
