EXCLUSIVE: Style Diary With 'Love & Hip Hop' Star Emily B

Dominican and Puerto Rican Emily Bustamante is breaking out of her shell on VH1’s Love & Hip Hop this season. In honor of tonight's season finale, which airs at 8 p.m. (ET/PT), we caught up with the former girlfriend and stylist of rapper Fabolous to find out about her clothing line and top style tips!

You’ve mentioned that you learned a lot about fashion from your mother. What did she teach you?

I had a young mom and she was fly, so as a little girl I would dress up in her clothes wanting to be just like her. Her style was sexy, yet classy and I feel as an adult I embody that style, except with a little edge.

Who is your style icon?

Rita Moreno is a legend to me. Her style is so classic and timeless. She is my inspiration for my clothing line that I’m currently working on called Emily B.

What’s the one piece in your closet that you would never throw away?

My first pair of three-and-a-half-inch Christian Louboutin shoes that I was able to afford with my first job. Nowadays, I like five-to-six-inch heels, but I was so proud that I was able to buy them.

You’re a curvy girl, like a lot of Latina women are, so what silhouettes work best for your body?

Instead of wearing something that is too oversized that just makes me look wide, I prefer pieces that are fitted like ruching dresses that complement my curves and hide any imperfections.

Many curvy women complain that they have a hard time  finding jeans that hug their hips and fit their waist as well. Any suggestions?

For me, it’s important to find jeans that have some stretch to them, like J Brand jeans, and if not, I go slightly baggy with boyfriend jeans.

What’s your go-to look and the accessory that never fails?

I’m addicted to blazers and love a chunky statement necklace because you could dress them both up or down.

What would you say is your look for spring and summer?

Spring and summer to me are easy, because you can throw on a nice summer dress and cute little flats or maybe some palazzo pants and a little tank, and look great.
