- Mixing business with pleasure has proven to be a sticky situation for Shakira. The Colombian pop star’s ex and former manager, Antonio de la Rua, filed a $100 million lawsuit for royalties owed during their 10-year partnership.
According to ABC News, court papers from the New York State Supreme Court claim that Antonio was responsible for negotiating the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer’s $300 million deal with Live Nation and her successful fragrance deal.
After the couple ended their ten-year relationship, Shakira still agreed to maintain their professional partnership, which she confirmed on her website. However, in the complaint Antonio suggests that he was terminated in 2011.
“From that day, Mebarak [Shakira’s father] has adopted a strategy of trying to rewrite history, which includes denying the existence of a partnership, belittling de la Rua's contributions to the partnership, and mischaracterizing past events," states the court documents.
Is Antonio just a bitter ex or do you think he’s entitled to the hefty check?
