Shakira took to her blog yesterday to tell her fans about her split from her boyfriend of 10-plus years, Antonio de la Rúa, which actually happened almost six months ago.
"They have been the most wonderful years of our lives, and thanks to that love and the respect that we share for one another we have been an exceptional couple and partners. However, since August 2010, we made a mutual decision to take time apart from our romantic relationship," the Colombian singer confessed on her website.
An insider says there was no drama behind the break, though there were rumors floating around in August that Shakira was spending time with Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique after the two met on the set of her music video for the World Cup anthem, "Waka, Waka."
"There was no big drama," insists the source. "It's just one of those things where they had been together a long time and realized they were more friends and business partners than lovers."
Shakira dated de la Rúa, son of former Argentine president Fernando de la Rúa, since 2000. It's surprising that the normally very private star opened up about her personal life in such a public way, but she does indicate that she refuses to do any press with regards to the break-up. It appears the duo intends to continue working together and have yet to rule out a possible reconciliation. "We view this separation as temporary, a time of individual growth as we continue to be partners in our business and professional lives," wrote Shaki.
