Selena Gomez's Rags to Riches Story

Selena Gomez opened up about her tough childhood growing up on her E! News special, recalling harder times: "I remember my mom would run out of gas all of the time and we’d sit there and have to go through the car and get quarters and help her get gas because she never liked to ask my grandparents for money."

"I remember having a lot of macaroni and cheese but my mom never made it seem like it was a big deal," Selena said. "She was really strong around me. Having me at 16 had to have been a big responsibility. My mom gave up everything for me, had three jobs, supported me sacrificed her life for me."

What a difference a few years makes! Now Selena is on top of the world and it's in no small part thanks to the steady, loving guidance she's received from her mother over the years. Her latest album, When the Sun Goes Down, hit #3 on the iTunes charts,  and now, rumor has it that Sex and the City creator Candace Bushnell has her eye on the former Disney princess to reprise the role of Charlotte York in the prequels she's written of her smash hit NYC based series called, The Carrie Diaries.

"I’m going to get into trouble for this, but I was looking at some pictures of Selena Gomez today and thinking ’she’d make a really good young Charlotte,’” Bushnell told The Daily Caller. “She’s so pretty. I was like…gosh, wouldn’t she be great?"

Gomez's new movie Monte Carlo also opens tonight in theaters across the country and the young actress/singer was in awe of all the traveling they did to shoot on location, filming in in France, Monaco and Hungary. "It was really cool to experience all those places for the first time," Gomez said.

But her favorite location was Paris, France (who can blame her!). The cast got to shut down Paris's most famous tourist site for one shot they filmed at 5am. "We rented out the Eiffel Tower, no big deal," Gomez joked to MTV News.
