Heartbreaking news for Selena Gomez and her family. According to E! Online, the part-Mexican singer/actress canceled two concerts scheduled this past weekend because her mother reportedly suffered a miscarriage. The website is reporting that Gomez’s rep cited a “family emergency” as the reason for the concerts being canceled.
A source close to the website said that Gomez’s mother, Mandy Cornett, suffered the miscarriage this past Friday. Selenita was in the audience at Power 106's Cali Christmas 2011 concert in Los Angeles but when she reportedly learned of her mother’s miscarriage, she immediately left for home.
Gomez was set to perform at the B96 Jingle Bash 2011 at the Allstate Arena outside of Chicago, Illinois and at another holiday concert at the WaMu Theater in Seattle. According to E! Online, the show in Seattle was postponed because pop rock band OneRepublic also had to cancel, due to its front man being ordered to go on vocal rest.
This is extremely sad news and we feel deeply for Gomez’s family. In an interview with Latina several months ago, the teen superstar spoke about being an only child. “I do have my moments where I really wish I had a sibling,” she said. Gomez also mentioned the famous Kardashian sisters. “Whenever I’m with them, I see that they have this sisterly bond and I really wish I had a sister like that to grow up with,” she told us.
Just last month, Gomez expressed her deep excitement via social media about her mother’s pregnancy with stepfather Brian Teefey. “Momma and Brian are finally letting me share the news,” she wrote in the post. “My mommys carrying my baby brother or sister :) I'm the happiest girl in the world!”
Our thoughts are with Selenita and her family.
