It doesn’t take much to get Internet tongues wagging, and this time there may be much ado about nothing. Really. The tea that’s being poured is about a possible Selena Gomez and Zayn Malik collabo on a song for the upcoming live-action Aladdin remake. Aladdin is slated to hit theaters on May 24, 2019.
It all started with the tweet heard around the Interwebs from a Selena Gomez fan account (see below) claiming that Gomez and Malik were rumored (in capital letters no less) to be teaming up for a duet for the film. Neither pop star’s camp has confirmed that this is indeed #facts. But that didn’t stop folks from having a fangirl moment and dreaming about a whole new world (get it?) and rubbing the magic lamps stashed under their beds.
Here’s what we do know: The cast was confirmed months ago, and there was online outrage because Princess Jasmine (played by Naomi Scott) is not of Arab descent. Will Smith will be the Genie. And they’ve already begun shooting. Remember when Big Willie posted a photo on Facebook shouting out his Aladdin fam?
As far as Gomez and Malik hooking up to make beautiful music, we’ll have to wait and see if either one of them or Disney confirms that detail. The Internet will be watching, like a nosey ass neighbor, of course.
