EXCLUSIVE: Ryan Lochte Talks Cuban Heritage & Hurricane Sandy Relief

Your mom is Cuban, so what are your some of your favorite Latino traditions or foods?

One of my favorite Latino foods that my grandma or my mom make is breaded steak with some black beans and rice.* I could eat that pretty much any day. Whenever they see me, they make it for me, because they know it’s my favorite food. But, we always have it for holidays–Christmas, Thanksgiving, every time we see each other they’re making breaded steak!

Why did you choose to get involved with Swim for Relief?

We’re coming up on the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, and I mean a lot of victims are still recovering. Proctor & Gamble and Tide put on this production, and all the proceeds are going to AmeriCares. It’s basically giving back and letting the people know that we’re here, we haven’t forgotten about them, and we’re here to help them. That’s why I wanted to jump on board!
