Sometimes finding true love on TV doesn’t always work out (surprise!) and sadly for Roberto Martinez and Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky, that seems to be the case as the two have broken off their engagement last week.
“I wouldn’t be being truthful if I said this came out of nowhere,” Fedotowsky said in an exclusive with People magazine.
Her reality-TV romance with the Puerto Rican insurance salesman met some challenges along the way to walking down the aisle. Off-camera, their differing career goals began to tear them apart. Martinez established a new State Farm insurance office in San Diego, C.A., but since Fedotowsky resigned from her job at Facebook in order to participate in The Bachelorette, she has struggled to find her niche.
“A lot of times what I wanted to do and what he wanted to do didn’t match up,” she said in her first interview since the break up.
Their contrasting personalities also brought some friction to the relationship. About Martinez’s old-fashioned social habits, Fedotowsky said, “He’s more introverted. I love being around people and sharing stories and going out to dinner.”
The wedding was set to be televised for the holidays on ABC. Fedotowsky’s attire of a Monique Lhullier gown with sparkly Converse sneakers was picked out. However, not even the most extravagant plans can keep a marriage together. “We take marriage very seriously. It’s not something we were going to do and just hope it works out,” Fedotowsky said—something we found refreshing to hear from a reality TV starlet.
She claims that while she didn’t make it down the aisle with Martinez, they both talk everyday and that Fedotowsky has saved her $50,000 Neil Lane engagement ring because of what it represents.
“I found real, true love, and I’m grateful that I had that experience,” Ali said of her experience on The Bachelorette. There can be no regrets if that's the case.
