As we previously reported, Puerto Rican superstar Ricky Martin is set to star in the revival of Evita. The 39-year-old singer, who will play Che alongside Argentinean actress Elena Roger, recently visited the La Casa Rosada (The Pink House) in Argentina.
Martin couldn’t help but take to Twitter to express his excitement of being inside the Argentinean equivalent to the U.S.’s White House. “In The Pink House for a photo session for Evita! How historic!!! A beautiful and interesting Sunday!” tweeted the boricua star. Martin will be making his first return to Broadway in 15 years—the singer starred in Les Misérables in 1996. Evita follows the life story of Eva Perón, the second wife of Argentinian president Juan Perón and a larger-than-life political figure. The show will be helmed by Tony-award winning British director Michael Grandage and is set to premiere next spring.
We are extremely excited about seeing Martin back on Broadway and we know he is too. Last month, the singer tweeted a photo of a thick manuscript for Evita and wrote that he was beginning work on the piano for the play. “I've been blessed with the opportunity to perform on many of the world's largest concert stages,” he said, “but I've never lost my love for the intimacy of the theater.”
