Ricky Martin Offered Role in Broadway Revival of 'Evita'

When the new Broadway revival of Evita debuts next year at the Nederlander theater, creators Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice are hoping to up the production's star power by bringing Ricky Martin on board to play the role of Che Guevara. The revival, budgeted at $10 million, will be directed by Michael Grandage and choreographed by Rob Ashford.
Argentinean performer Elena Rogers will reprise her role as Eva Peron in the Broadway production after wowing critics in Evita's first revival in London, England back in 2006. Although Roger's achieved critical success playing the title role in Europe, she is a relative unknown talent stateside. "Elena Roger is wonderful but, let's be honest, she's not going to sell a ticket," a production source told the NY Post. "You have to have a star to build an advance today, even for Evita."
Ricky Martin has yet to accept the offer, but here's hoping that we'll be seeing him soon on the Great White Way!
