Through his publicist, 39-year-old Martin expressed his longtime desire to become a Spanish citizen, which he described as one step in a plan to become part of a global community. Still, Martin did not leave out his native Puerto Rico. “I was born in Puerto Rico, I’m Puerto Rican and that is my place of birth,” he said. “Spain is a country that links many feelings and strong ties derived from my roots and the love that it has given me since the first time I visited.”

There are rumors circulating that Martin may have sought Spanish citizenship to be able to wed legally in the country – though, according to Latin Gossip, that has not been confirmed. Martin is in a serious relationship with longtime boyfriend Carlos González Abella.

Congrats to both Martin and Del Toro on their newly granted citizenship!
