Prince's 8 Latino Connections

Prince loved being surrounded by people, some of them were Latino and a whole lot of them were women. The singer will continue to be remembered by all of those in his life as we all mourn the loss of such a legend.

1. Prince Latino Connections: Mayte Garcia

Prince was married to Mayte Garcia for three years. She started off as one of his back-up dancers and soon grew to be his leading lady. The couple got married on Valetine's Day in 1996 but divorced four years later after losing two children. Garcia gave birth to a son who died a week later due to a rare disorder. 

2. Prince Latino Connections: Sheila E

Sheila E. was Prince's protégé and served as his drummer during his tours in the '80s. It wasn't known until the drummer published her memoir that not only did she date Prince, but the two were actually engaged before he married Mayte Garcia.

3. Prince Latino Connections: Apollonia Kotero

Apollonia Kotero took Prince by storm when she was cast to play his love interest in his movie Purple Rain. The film was the last to ever receive an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. 

4. Prince Latino Connections: Ingrid Chavez

Ingrid Chavez was yet another woman in Prince's life but on-screen for his 1990 film Graffiti Bridge. The two had instant chemistry on set. 

5. Prince Latino Connections: Bria Valente

Brenda Fuentes aka Bria Valente was one of Prince's last girlfriends. She was tagged as one of his protégés and he even produced her album Elixer as well as her 2012 single, "2nite."

6. Prince Latino Connections: Angelah Johnson

Shortly after Prince's death, Angelah Johnson posted a tribute photo on Instagram and revealed an encounter she had with the legend. "I will never forget the day @doknock and I thought Prince wanted to play pool with us but really he kicked us off the table so he could play with his friend. I was never so happy to have been chin checked by someone."

7. Prince Latino Connections: Christina & Carmen Milian

Christina Milian and her mami Carmen Milian both posted touching tributes to Prince and revealed the trio actually spent some time together. Christina wrote, "Thankful for all the laughs, unforgettable beautiful & musical memories made. So blessed to have spent time picking each other's brain and watching him do what he loved most. Music. Rest in Peace my friend. You will be missed greatly. So blessed to know you."

Her mom on the other hand spoke about getting invited to several late night performance at his house. She went on to write, "He was a very private person so all these events were camera free zones but to tell you the truth the joy and entertainment he brought to us on those incredible nights will forever be engraved in our minds and our hearts. Thank you Prince Rogers Nelson for some of the best and memorable times in our family's lives.... You will surely be missed but never forgotten."

8. Prince Latino Connection: George Lopez

The iconic performer made a visit to Lopez Tonight with George Lopez in 2011. Prince was never one to do any talk show and he revealed why he chose Lopez's. "I find that this show represents all people and I see all kinds of guests on here."
