Dozens of Spanish stars, including Penelope CruzJavier Bardem and their longtime friend, director Pedro Almodovar, denounced Israel's attack upon Palestinian civilians in an open letter referenced by Europa Press.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the letter describes Israel's actions as "genocide" and calls upon the European Union to "condemn the bombing by land, sea and air against the Palestinian civilian population in the Gaza Strip." The filmmakers then demand a cease-fire by the Israeli military, and urge the country to "lift the blockade, which the Gaza Strip has suffered for more than a decade."

"Gaza is living through horror these days," the letter states. "Besieged and attacked by land, sea and air. Palestinians' homes are being destroyed, they are being denied water, electricity [and] free movement to their hospitals, schools and fields while the international community does nothing."

Since the attacks upon the Gaza Strip began three weeks ago, at least 1,283 Palestinians and 56 Israelis have lost their lives, according to CNN

The letter from the Spanish entertainers follows Selena Gomez's controversiapost about the crisis. "Please pray for those families and babies today. Please always remember what's important in life. It's not any of this. We are here to help, inspire and love. Be that change. #wearethenextgeneration." she wrote, alongside a picture that read "Pray for Gaza." After facing backlash from fans, the singer posted a second message. "And of course to be clear, I am not picking any sides. I am praying for peace and humanity for all," she wrote.
