Penelope Cruz on Becoming a Mami: “It changes you forever”

Penélope Cruz is on the cover of this fall’s V Magazine. The 37-year-old Spanish actress shared her feelings on motherhood, playing different roles, and her Pirates of the Caribbean co-star, Johnny Depp.  “The biggest transformation is becoming a mother,” Cruz said.  “It changes you forever.”  Cruz has a baby boy with husband, Spanish actor Javier Bardem.

Cruz, who dons a Ralph Lauren tuxedo on the magazine’s cover, says playing someone else in films is really addictive.  “You can go into a different state when you are portraying somebody… A part of you becomes almost obsessed with that other being,” she said.  “That is the feeling I look for.”

Cruz also said Depp wears anything better than she does. “He even wore a dress in the movie he did with Javier [Bardem], Before Night Falls,” she said.  “He wore that dress very well.  Both star in the latest installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, in theaters now.
