Patricia Velasquez has come out to the world in her memoir, Straight Walk: A Supermodel's Journey to Finding Her Truth.
According to E! News, Velasquez reveals in her book that for years she hid her sexuality from even those closest to her, and says that she was inspired by her 8-year-old daughter to write the book.
"It's very difficult to face your past, so I put off doing anything like this for a long time," the Venezuelan actress told Yahoo! Parenting. "But as my daughter started growing up and I was teaching her to be honest and proud, I knew it was time for me to set an example—and that meant facing my truth. For me, living life with truth and honesty is the one thing I want to make sure she understands."
Velasquez shares her daughter with ex, Lauren, whom she discusses in her book. "Gay marriage wasn't legal when Lauren and I decided to commit to one another and have a baby together," she writes in Straight Walk.
"The decision was an easy one, not like when it had been presented to me before. It made sense. Lauren was an amazing woman and I was excited to bring a life into the world with her. The second we received confirmation she was pregnant, I felt like my entire life had changed for the better."
