Her pill-popping, shot-swigging days are so far behind her, Nicole Richie probably only vaguely remembers what it's like to be an out-of-control socialite. These days, gourmet meals involve homemade organic baby food and photo shoots center around baby Harlow, whose every smile Nicole snaps for posterity.
She's "the best mom I've ever seen," Nicole's boyfriend, Joel Madden, tells People."Nicole is completely dedicated. I do whatever she tells me to do. I'm cool with that. She's really good with the baby. I'm really good with finances. All of Harlow's education and all that stuff, I already have planned."
Inspite of their baby-centric household, Nicole insists that she and Joel still life their own lives, too. They recently returned to L.A. after touring with Joel's band, Good Charlotte, and bought a new pad for their growing family. "I think my sense of self is still the same," says Nicole. "But I don't do things, we do things. I work around her."
The baby, it seems, is an easy one to love. "Harlow's a delicate soul," says Nicole. "She studies people. She's very coy. People say that she and I make the same expressions. But everyone says she looks like Joel."
No offense to Joel, but Nicole is definitely the one with the looks in that couple. Is he worried that his daughter is turning out to be his spitting image? "I'm cool with it, as long as she doesn't look like me in a wig when she's 16. I like that she looks like me...it's my get-out-of-jail-free card."
So, what will come first: another baby, or a trip down the aisle? Though they haven't ruled out another child, marriage is clearly not at the top of their list of priorities. "When we get married, everyone will know," Nicole reveals. "It will happen when it happens."
We're still a little dumbstruck that Nicole Richie has become the posterchild for stability and good parenting, but we're happy for her nonetheless. Guess we'll just have to wait till Harlow goes away to college for some of Nic's wild side to resurface...
